Things you learn when watching the NHL
Network crawl at 4:00 in the morning:
The last time two or more of the Original
Six hockey teams played in the semifinals (Conference Finals) of the Stanley
Cup was 2002.
The last time two of the Original Six met
in the Stanley Cup Final series was in 1979 when Montreal and the Rangers played.
Since 1967, the last season prior to the
NHL expanding from the Original Six to twelve teams, four of the Original Six
have not made it to the Stanley Cup Playoff semifinal round.
Actually, the Original Six is a bit
misleading as there were other teams in the NHL prior to 1967 besides the
Montreal Canadians, Toronto Maple Leafs, New York Rangers, Boston Bruins,
Detroit Red Wings, and Chicago Black Hawks. Nevertheless, for those of us over
the age of 50, these teams will always be known as the Original Six the last
ties to old time hockey. That era of the Original Six was actually from 1942 to
the end of the 1966-67 season.
An Original Six Final? It could happen!
